Senior Accountant

The Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT) was established in 2012 with a focus on the application of biotechnologies to improve productivity, efficiency and sustainability in aquaculture and related industries. CAT is scaling operations at its PEI location and is looking to add a full-time, permanent position within the Accounting Department.

Reporting to: 
Finance Manager 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee billing and collections from clients for both US and Canadian companies
  • Support & prepare/submit grant applications/claims/reports related to capital improvements or labour rebates
  • Maintain a detailed inventory of all ongoing grants
  • Cross-train on Accounts Payable and Payroll functions
  • Monitor time tracking platform and ensure projects are kept up-to-date
  • Play a lead accounting role in the month-end close process
  • Project costing analysis
  • Internal control analysis/improvements
  • Monitor, account, and maintain schedules for fixed asset purchases and respective schedules
  • Ledger maintenance
  • ​Other tasks as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Business, Accounting, or Commerce
  • ​3-5 years of full-cycle accounting experience
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (specifically Excel)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have access to reliable transportation, be legally authorized to work in Canada, and consent to pre-employment background checks (including Criminal Record Check)
  • CPA, CPA candidate, or interest in pursuing a CPA designation considered an asset
