\nLocated in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Meet PEI’s is mandated to market and promote the province of PEI as a business events and conventions (MICE) year-round destination. Meet PEI identifies meeting planner needs and connects them with industry partners to meet all their planning needs by sending requests for proposals and bidding on conferences. Meet PEI seeks a self-motivated individual with sales experience in the hospitality industry for the role of Business Development Manager.

\nMeetings & Conventions Prince Edward Island (operating as Meet PEI) is the destination management organization responsible for attracting corporate business events, incentive groups, sport meetings and national and international conferences and government groups to the PEI. With the support of a highly collaborative community, Meet PEI works in partnership with its partners across PEI to promote the Island as a vibrant location to host business events, meetings, and conventions on a local, regional, national, and international level. Leveraging our partners unique and authentic experiences and hospitality, Meet PEI is a member-based organization who partner with the public and private sector to deliver effective destination marketing services. \n\n

\n Reporting to the Director of Sales, the successful candidate will exhibit strengths in the following key areas:
\n
\nSales\n\n

Drive the business development effort in developing relationships with targeted in key areas of Canada
Targeting group planners on the unique offerings for PEI and prospect new business for our partners across the island.
Connecting any incoming conferences for future years to our partners across PEI to help them navigate hosting on the island and as a destination expert
Establish and implement individual sales plans in target meeting planners with a heavy emphasis on corporate meeting planner leads development and prospecting. Identify key differentiators for target markets and prepare individually tailored meetings solutions ranging in scope from small to large city-wide meetings, overseeing and reporting on sales performance metrics including customer relationship management activity and results tracking.
Must have a strong understanding of the business events sector in Canada and the tourism sector on PEI

To ensure that our partners are working with us collaboratively to sell the destination of PEI when attending tradeshows

\nNew Business Development \n\n

Prospect for new clients and build relationships with planners and decision makers across Canada.
Attend tradeshows and business travel on and off Island to promote our sector and our partners with a Team PEI approach.
Target meetings with local ambassadors on PEI and grow the local leader community.

\n\n

Position the organization to achieve its goals in relation to growing Business Events/meetings and conventions, incentive groups on PEI targeting the shoulder seasons but also as a year-round destination.

\n\n

Sales plan development and implementation for tangible results for to grow corporate by prospecting, lead generation and follow up.
Meet potential clients and grow awareness of PEI as a unique MICE destination; by leveraging the strengths of our unique and authentic offerings.
Develop business/ bid proposals that are creative, timely and respond to planner’s unique needs.
Lead generation and prospecting is key to this role.
Exhibit skills at researching new clients and building an extensive network.
Understanding the value of our sector to the overall tourism sector on PEI.

Liaise and network with other team members to achieve collaborative results for the organization as well as for our partners.
Foster positive relationships and strong links with members, government partners and other key industry stakeholders.

\nClient Retention \n\n

Maintain best practice in business-to-business sales and relationship management with follow up.
Effectively manage a target market client business opportunity and ensure accurate and timely data management in the organizations client relationship management (CRM) tool.
Develop and deliver ongoing ideas that support future organizational growth including the growth in member and joint marketing efforts including tradeshow and off-island events.
Share with members client/ marketplace needs and trends.
Be a Meet PEI brand ambassador for PEI in the exploration and development of new business event, conference, incentive and sport

They will clearly demonstrate expertise in relationship building as well as representing the organization through acting as a brand ambassador.

\nThe business development manager will be reflective on past experiences and future focused and will actively seek out opportunities for individual and team development to expand our market focus.\n\n

\nEducation and Experience

\n\n

3–5 years in the tourism, hospitality, or meetings & conventions (MICE) sector, with an existing network of meeting/event planners or industry contacts in Canada
3–5 years of B2B sales or business development experience, ideally including lead generation, prospecting, and CRM-based pipeline management
Post-secondary education in a tourism related field is considered an asset
Strong understanding and market knowledge of the meetings and conventions sector
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to meet targets and deadlines
Experience managing business development activity budgets
Bilingual (French) is a strong asset
Understanding of the unique value and selling proposition of business events and conferences) on PEI

\nSalary is commensurate with experience $55,000 to $58,000. Benefits include dental, health and RRSP opportunities. Frequent off Island travel is required.\n\n
