Printing Press Technician

PEI Bag Company has an opportunity for Printing Press Technician. The Printing Press Technician is responsible for assisting with all tasks associated with safely producing printed roll stock for both our paper bag machines and/or for finished goods being sent direct to customer.  Using two central impression drum water-based flexographic printing presses, we print on paper roll stock to produce food grade packaging for the agriculture and dry goods industries.

What You’ll Do:
 
Working with the Printing Press Operator, you will assist with:
  • Learn and understand safety functions of printing presses.
  • Preparing and loading paper rolls into unwinder units.
  • Preparing of cores on rewinder units.
  • Removal and labelling of completed product rolls from the rewinder units.
  • Operation of doctor blade chamber controls.
  • Operation of ink pump controls to flush colors, pump ink into chambers, return ink into buckets, and perform wash up.
  • Mixing of custom color inks, according to established recipes, and completing mixed ink batch tracking.
  • Monitoring and maintaining ink viscosity levels as directed by press operators.
  • Stopping the press safely and notifying the operator of any print defects.
  • Completing housekeeping tasks, as directed by operators.
  • Completing preventative maintenance tasks, as directed by operators.
  • Maintaining a full stock of empty cores for all product sizes for each press.
  • Disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of doctor blade chambers for both printing presses.
  • Verification and storage of incoming ink supplies, using the first-in-first-out method.
  • Cleaning of anilox shields, drip trays, and other press parts as directed by operators.
  • Swapping out of filled water totes from both printing presses.
  • Strapping and removing paper bales from baler machine.
  • Operating Schmutz rewinder machine when required.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Printing Press Operators, Team Lead, or Print Manager.
Work Environment:
The physical environment requires the employee to move in a fast-paced indoor manufacturing environment.  Frequently required to use personal protective equipment for safety precaution.  Must be able to pay attention to detail. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Stand for extended periods of time and bend, crouch, or kneel as may be required to repair equipment.

  • Starting pay at $16.91/hour and $17.43/hour after probation. Progression beyond the fully trained rate is based on performance in the role.

Hours
Hours of work are Monday to Friday.  Weekends and overnights off!

This position will work one of two shifts:
6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; or
2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  
Some overtime may be required based on production demands.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrates safe work behaviours and follow safety policies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions, work with minimal supervision
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Self-motivated with the willingness to stick to tasks that may be repetitive in nature
  • Strong attention to detail and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
